How Landscaping Helps Sell Homes In Bergen County

Curb Appeal Landscaping for Your Bergen County Home

It’s a common solution to increase Bergen County property value by renovating the inside of a home.  Consider the exterior with landscaping that can add the greatest increase in curb appeal. Done correctly, the addition of well-planned trees, shrubs, plants, walks, lighting, and patios can increase the value of your property when it comes time to sell.

Clean it up

The least expensive way to improve your landscape is to clean it up. Buyers tend to like homes with lawns, according to a DenverPost.com article.  Make sure your lawn is mowed (the experts suggest 2 inches).  If you have brown patches, rake them out and reseed.  Clear debris, rake up leaves and clear branches daily—you never know when a potential buyer will do a drive by.  The problems of dirty paving, mossy patio stones and cracked concrete are a turn-off for potential buyers.

Shape up

Weeds, overgrown limbs, and dead plant debris are a turnoff to potential buyers.  They make a home look ignored, or suggest that a great deal of time and labor will be required by the new owner.   Pull weeds from flower beds, the driveway, and around decks and patios. Clearing away dead plant debris from your flower beds will make the area look tidy and draw all eyes to the plants, not the debris.  Prune overgrown tree limbs and plants, and trim shrubs that have become unkempt. Let the sun shine in by removing overgrown greenery that blocks windows or paths.

Repair & repaint

Decks and patios are an excellent value booster, but not if they’re poorly maintained. Clean and repair your deck and replace damaged patio or walkway stones to add an instant improvement; it’s a small investment with a big payback.    If you think there’s no hope, consider refinishing or replacing.  It can take years off the general appearance of your gardenscape.

Sell it with color

Vivid flowers in front of your home can boost the curb appeal of your home by making it feel bright and friendly.  Combine these with ground cover plants to fill the space with texture as well as color.  Shrubs are a quick way to fill in bare spots and evergreen varieties offer year round color. Instead, plant shrubs in groups of three or more to create a more refined look.
